Project 4: Availability of Anaesthetic Emergency Guidelines

This pan-regional audit examines whether guidelines for major anaesthetic emergencies are immediately available (and up to date) in all locations where anaesthesia is being provided.

This project is now completed.

Description

Some anaesthetic emergencies are very rare but require a prompt and structured approach in order to ensure optimal patient outcome.

This audit examines the availability of guidelines for major anaesthetic emergencies in all locations where routine anaesthesia is being provided.

These include:

  • All theatres or anaesthetic rooms
  • CT scanners
  • MRI scanners
  • Other radiology areas: angiography, other fluoroscopy etc...
  • Cardiac catheter lab
  • ECT
  • Procedure rooms

The project is envisaged to be the first step in a pan-regional trainee-led service improvement effort, following a Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle.

The first data collection phase is now complete.
